Watching Stevie May in the Burnley match he showed he is not up to the standard of player that is required at Aberdeen. After watching him playing in recent games he has shown nothing. Okay he has had his injury problems but his time is over at Aberdeen. There must be a club willing to take him off our hands IF we can convince him to terminate his contract, if not, drop him from the first team and give a youngster a chance. D.M took a gamble with him and he lost.

Nobody can say that May has showed anything since he arrived at Aberdeen D.M has to play him to justify the transfer money for him. I do not usually slam Aberdeen players and try to give them the benefit of the doubt but will make an exemption for May. I really hope he makes me eat my words on Sunday and scores the winner but will not hold my breath.

I'm not particularly sticking up for Stevie May as I don't think he's got much left to offer but it never ceases to surprise me that as a support we've ALWAYS got to have someone to slate, each and every season, rather than getting behind the entire squad.

It isn't May's fault that DM employs tactics that mean he is effectively useless whenever he gets a game. Just not suited to playing the lone striker role, needs to play beside a more physical striker to pounce on knockdowns etc. Also can play in attacking midfield role and create chances for others but with the way it looks like we are moving ahead sadly it might be in everyones interests now to try to move him on, though not before we have a couple of replacements insitu

Agree with the previous post. What we are doing with May is the equivalent of sticking Adam Rooney wide left and expecting him to be McGinn or Hayes. Our tactics do not suit May at all. Against Burnley we were a long high ball team and that doesn’t suit May at all. He has zero confidence being expected to do something he’s not good at doing. Imagine going to work and your boss continually asking you to do stuff that doesn’t suit your strengths, your qualities, and you can’t really do. What would it do to you? I feel for May. It would be like playing GMS in central defense.

 

May has been a bad signing and a total waste of money since we are not allowing him to play his game, not playing him in a role he can do or has had success, and continue to do this with no success. What is DM thinking???

The way we played against Burnley is not necessarily the way we will play throughout the rest of the season.  Burnley have better players so we were never going to outplay them playing pretty football.

 

I believe May and Cosgrove might well get the chance to play as a pairing this season and then will be the point when May must produce.

I would hope that the singnificantly increased solidity of the defence might give DM the confidence to play a more attacking strategy.

He's not good enough. Should be sent on loan to a St Mirren or Dundee where he can play every week and maybe he comes back to us as a better player, but personally I don't think it's his fitness or confidence that's the problem, more his attitude. His determination to win the ball or take a shot on is always half-hearted. More interested in trying to win free kicks.

If we'd done the sensible thing last summer and signed him on loan instead of spunking £400k on him, how many people think we would have followed that up and paid cash for him this summer?

 

It was an incredible risk and it doesn't really look like paying off.

I didn't start the thread, but which thread should the OP have put it in? Or is he not allowed to criticise? It's a football forum, it can't all be positive.

 

Him coming off the bench was irrelevant to how he performed. The first header he went for, he barely bothered jumping. Minutes later he made another half arsed attempt at winning the ball. He's been on the bench, chomping to get in, then barely tries a leg when he gets his chance.

 

Like I said in my last post, his attitude is to try and win free-kicks and pens rather than take a dig at goal. I've never seen a player throw his arms up in the air as much as he does when the ball isn't laid perfectly to him.

 

He's been a waste of a shirt in both legs. He doesn't appear to have the hunger anymore.

He is a professional football player and should be able to give a good account of himself anywhere the manager asks him to play. Not that I have anything wrong with long hair but maybe a wee trim might be just what he needs to kick start his season

May was a hugely promising player once upon a time. We know this from personal bitter experience.

 

He's been thoroughly disappointing for AFC. There are reasons for his performance differential between then and now.

 

If the injury he suffered before we signed him is the principal reason then that's a failure from our management team and specifically our medical specialists. The high foot by Ryan Jack is NOT an excuse. That one wasn't a long termer let alone career-threatening and he'd had enough games for us before then that we could see he was nowhere near his previous excellent standards.

 

If injury is NOT the main reason, then it can only be his lack of discipline/work ethic. Which is a management failing once again.

 

We either recruited a dud or we are managing him into further dudness. One thing is for sure, Stevie May 83 is as much history as our own club's history and as much as his shirt number last year. The boy is fucking murder and he ain't coming back.

while im disappointed in mays games so far he wasn't used right last year and hes barely started games and I don't think its the injuries that's the problem, maybe its confidence thing

I will give Stevie May some credit for sending The Rat home in an ambulance this afternoon. It's a pity that he is not up to Scottish Premiership standard but that's life. Move on.
