It would be pretty optimistic to think him leaving won't make us a worse team. It's similar to when we lost Jack, most people thought he was an arsehole but it still made us a worse team because we had no chance of replacing him in the short-term. Best we can hope for is to unearth another young player who turns out to be as good as Ferguson in 2-3 years, at which point said player will probably run off to join Bournemouth or someone and the cycle will begin again.

At least in this case we have a good situation with the contract so can get a decent fee in theory.

Guess that’s why Jenks was brought in, for the short term and probably why we allegedly enquired about the possibility of a transfer for the long term with potential to develop.
Hopefully Campbell begins to leave his mark on games more often.
I think it’s also a bit revisionist to say we became worse after the rat left. We finished second in the league and lost to the beaten finalists in both cups.
The real drop came when MacLean (in particular) and Shinnie went. These were replaced by Campbell not experienced enough, Ojo not good enough, McGeouch permanently injured and Ferguson undroppable…

We replaced Jack with Greg Tansey, had fewer points in the league, a worse goal difference and went out at an earlier stage in both cups to Motherwell when in the previous season we'd made the final of both and lost to Celtic. It absolutely made us worse, things just didn't fall apart completely.

Wasn't Tansey loaned to Ross County by the January of 2018? I suppose he could be blamed for the 3 points less we achieved that season but does he get any credit for however many points it was closer to Celtic we finished?

A traffic cone that had been hit @ 120 mph would be better and more mobile than Greg Tansey ?

Aye but what would be the breaking distance if it were a 1985 ford escort and the conditions were a slight wind and drizzly rain?

In fairness to that signing tansey had looked great at inverness.  It was gamble he could step up but at the time I thought it had potential.

No he didn't. He was clearly not good enough to play in McInnes' system, he didn't cover the distance of Jack, Shinnie, McLean or even David Murray. That was blatant in his final season at Inverness. It was as ludicrous a signing as Main.

I'd be tempted to deal at not much more. Despite finishing our top scorer from midfield, he's not reached the levels he could have in the last year (I think the employing of Brown was an absolute disaster for his development). I think that a sideways step will be all he can really hope for at this stage (although the Scotland appearances will have helped). He needs to be challenged at championship level, where he'll play against a handful (or more perhaps) of teams above the dons level (of a couple of years ago). It'd be a massive punt for anyone above that to go for him, and I don't see him going abroad either. I think we missed the boat last season with the best offer we were likely to get. Try and get a few teams interested and see if we can get £2M. Another year in the SPFL will do neither him nor us any good.

He’s going to be a big loss to us.  Player of the year for us, despite it being given to McCrorie. Not only will we lose out in the midfield, we’ll lose goals too potentially. He’s always been good at converting penalties and we’d need someone to take that on with the same success.

Totally agree will be a massive loss to Dons but also agree with Rico that for him to continue to develop he needs to move on although I do still think European route might be best for him.

He's not getting much of a chance to date.  So far he's come off the bench at the San Siro for about 10 minutes and not had a sniff in the 4 games that followed.

Quite surprised by that, 3 mill is a reasonable outlay for Bologna.

He played the last 13 minutes of the 3-0 defeat to Juventus on Sunday, which is his first minutes for some time. That means he's played just 20 minutes of first team football, yet those have been at the San Siro & Juventus stadium.
