tom_widdows Posted May 4, 2019 Report Posted May 4, 2019 Less said about today the better. should have been 2 or 3 up before the rats scored. Thought Ball,Lowe & 1st half Logan were very good & Cosgrove & May very poor. Might struggle to finish 3rd now, we have Hearts(h) Hibs (a) , who have Killie got ? Both Hibs & Sevco at Home Quote
A llad insane Posted May 4, 2019 Report Posted May 4, 2019 Both at Rugby Park, they have to be favourites for 3rd Quote
scotfree Posted May 5, 2019 Report Posted May 5, 2019 I've never wanted a season to end this fast than any for a long time. A very weird season. Quote
KennyFuckinPowers Posted May 5, 2019 Report Posted May 5, 2019 Had an feeling of inevitability about it after we squandered the Cosgrove/Wilson chances in immediate succession. To be fair to Cosgrove, he got a good, clean connection in it, it was just too close to Bain, then obviously Wilson rattles the Post. I thought defensively, up until a point, we were okay, game completely passed Ferguson by and Ball showed why he could still be a useful squad player, if played in that role! Wilson was the best of the front 4, albeit missed some decent opportunities, May was fucking garbage, Logan did okay considering he was out for as long as he was. There is a genuine concern that 3rd place is gone as well now, which is pretty disappointing, and could potentially change our recruitment, as it appears to persuade the odd player to join us for the taste of European Football. However, it's not done until the last game of the season, hopefully we do that Jambo mob next week, shower of cunts. Quote
Ten Caat Posted May 5, 2019 Report Posted May 5, 2019 Agree with everything KFP has said bar the concern about 3rd place. It will be close I think and it's possible we could be edged out for 4th on goal difference which would be horrible to witness. But beat Hearts at home and get a point at least at Hivs then I think we will pip them to 3rd. As it happens, sevco are 1-0 against Hivs as I write.....if it stays like that then that's us guaranteed 4th. Just cannot see any circumstance (well other than a very early red card) where Celtic won't bury Hearts in the Cup Final so we will be in Europe by 5.30pm all things going well. Quote

If we’d given Wilson the minutes and patience we gave Cosgrove I think he’d be the 20 goal player this season and he’d have scored at least one over the weekend. Many have differing opinions on Wilson but if we were to lock in third I’d offer him a contract and with a good preseason in him have him as our main forward. Unlikely it will happen but there’s a player in there. Quote
DantheDon Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 Wilson certainly shows flashes of brilliance. I often think even if hes not scoring he could do a job on the wing for us. Its just consistency that seems to be his problem perhaps getting him back next season with familiar surroundings and a bit less pressure would allow him to find some form. Quote
RicoS321 Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 At a certain point you have to stop chasing the guy who at some stage may become a player. Wilson had plenty of opportunities earlier in the season and he hid. Constantly making runs into places he knew he wouldn't get the ball. He's clearly got ability, but he's forgotten how to play fitba as part of a team. He was okay on Saturday, but if that's a guy playing for his future in the game then we should steer well clear. It would be exceptionally high risk as we'd end up with Cosgrove playing the majority of games again with Wilson happy to take the bench (Anderson's chances then being limited further). We'd have to pay a huge chunk of money for a guy that we'd have to nurture through a large number of games before we saw any return (if at all). We've unsuccessfully attempted that with May and it's had a negative impact we certainly shouldn't be making the same mistake again. Would anyone be happy to see Wilson start the first ten games of the season with no return? We're not in a position that we can afford to do that in my opinion. To add, as LA-Don suggested that we give Wilson the patience we gave Cosgrove. Up until Cosgrove started scoring (i.e. earned his place) in December, Wilson had started every single game he was fit in both league and cup: 9 games. Cosgrove in that period had started just 3 (Wilson wasn't fit until the Motherwell game). We gave him a lot of time to prove himself. Quote
Guest kiriakovisthenewstrachan Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 Spot on with that Rico. Have to cut our losses with some of these lads and move them on. Otherwise we could start next season by having Hoban (just in case he becomes free of injury), Wilson (just in case he turns good), Wright (because he might start to fulfil his potential), May (he might start scoring at some point), etc etc. These players have had plenty of opportunities, it is time to get in a few new bodies and hit the reset button. rocket_scientist Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 Neither Wilson nor Cosgrove are good enough. I've seen most of the games they've played for Aberdeen and it's too obvious that we won't be offering Wilson any contract or deal. The only once he impressed me was his goal at Pittodrie when we won 3-0 (v. Hamilton I think) but most of the time, he looks like what he is, a great potential once upon a time which 30k a week for 5 years and/or serious injury has ruined. As for Cosgrove, there's a reason why a middle of the table League 2 side offloaded him for a pitiful 20k. The non-league Rooney was twice as good as the two of them put together and he wasn't good enough for AFC in his last year with us. Quote
RicoS321 Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 I'd agree, but the difference between Rooney and Cosgrove is that Cosgrove is a young loon who can play a part as backup and give us an option of something different in games. Rooney would have always been a very expensive option in that regard and rarely worked as a sub. I'd keep Cosgrove, Anderson and ditch May and Wilson and get in a good first team striker. We'll need 3 strikers next season, and so having a 20 goal striker in Cosgrove is a bonus, but we definitely shouldn't be relying on him. Quote
KennyFuckinPowers Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 We are stuck with Stevie May as he's contracted until 2021 I think, and there's absolutely no hope in hell that anyone will give us even half of what we paid for him, and on the same token, McInnes won't have it in him to release him for fuck all. It is a shame for the guy, he was clearly a good, young player who went to England and suffered a serious Injury in where he looks less than half of that player now, it is glaringly obvious that he can't play the lone Striker role, as he's as deadly as Darren Mackie was in front of goal & McInnes wouldn't play him in a 2 out & out Striker formation, so he genuinely doesn't fit in anywhere. It hasn't worked, we all hoped it would, and I appreciate that there are still people out there who love him and want us to get shot of Cosgrove instead ( Yes, there really is ) but come on to fuck, when do you accept that he's just pish now and Cosgrove is at least at a good age where he's still developing as a player. I agree with the basic sentiment that he shouldn't be our main Striker going into next season, but he's well ahead of Stevie May in the pecking order. Quote
Slim Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 Wilson reminds me a lot of Steve Lovell, you can see there's something there but he just doesn't have the heart to reach for it. Not taking May on loan before buying him for such a high fee with such a long contract was an act of negligence. Quote
TheDeeDon Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 I agree with the Steve Lovell/Wilson comparison, but as for the fee for May, I think all us dandies thought he would be a great signing for us, but it just hasn't worked out for him, possibly the injuries he suffered through the years means he will never get back what he once had which is a shame He will be difficult to offload whilst under contract, but we have had recent history of getting rid of players quickly after paying out fees for them. Watching us against Celtic on Saturday it is clear that we can't afford the level of transfer fuck ups we have had the ast few seasons or we will lose even more ground against them. I know we operate in a different market from Celtic, but it's the way the heads go down now when we go a goal behind is what worries me, previous teams under McInnes were always capable of coming back after going behind, we were even specialists at it for a few seasons. DantheDon Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 I think the situation we are in as a club dictates that we have to try and develop players who have talent but are not the finished article. I don't understand why some people are so keen to get shot of Cosgrove, he is still a young guy with great potential. Wilson hasn't been worth the money we have been paying him this season but I would say if we can get him in on a squad player salary we should give him a short deal to see if we cant get the talent that is there out of him. There is no guarantee that we can sign anyone better. Look at Forrester this season and Stevie May last. We spent over 600k on the two of them and we have had very little in return. Johnny Hayes was hot and cold when he joined us but developed into a great player and I think that we are going to have to put faith in the players we have got to an extent. Hopefully we could bring in a couple of quality signings in the summer but there will inevitably be duds. Quote
Ten Caat Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 I think we would let May go for free but with him being at the top end of our earners, unrealistic to think anyone will bite without us subsiding 50-75% of his wages. I'm gutted it hasn't worked out for him, no one could ever doubt his effort and commitment. Really quite bizarre he can no longer score goals, after his knee injuries you would think it would be his pace that might have suffered.....goal-scoring is just instinct. Best option I think would be to allow him to head out on loan (us covering 100% of wages) for 6 months if anyone is interested. If he rediscovers something...great bring him back and get him a run in the team. If he bombs...well we are stuck with him till 2021. Quote
