That's exactly why I don't know how they can ask for Sat to be called off. If they can't field a team vs us, how can they field a team vs Celtic? Quote
Guest BTR Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 This 100% confirmed - game is off? Not yet, but it is highly likely: The Scottish Premier League are expected to confirm on Thursday whether they will permit the postponement of the Pittodrie fixture. Quote
phil-stellaartois-mcguire Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 is this going to be like that Scotland game against on of the 'onias when the team still had to turn out against the no shows?? Quote

Ajja Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 The administrators or Gretna cannot decide to postpone this fixture. Only the SPL. If they can't show up then they are fucked. No second chances. Cancel all points and let the race for 3rd commence in ernest......YYAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS. Quote

They either turn up and play on Saturday or the SPL tell them to sling their hook and then they (the SPL) can compensate us for the money we'll lose. Quote
Guest Caroline B Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 A load of questions need to be answered by the SPL. Are they going to strip clubs of the points already gained versus Gretna? If so, are all cautions and ordering off's going to be recinded too? In Aberdeen's case, this would mean Lee Miller in the Pittodrie match and Ricky Foster in the away match. In Millers case, due to the totting up system, he received a suspension. Does this put the SPL at risk of legalities being that Miller was suspended for an important league match when the record's will show that he wasn't in fact over the totting up limit after all? Are AFC likely to receive compensation for all losses incurred due to Gretna's ceasing of business? When the league splits, the bottom 6 (now 5) shall have 1 match less to play resulting in even more loss of revenue for the bottom sides, not to mention players of all sides losing out on bonuses etc, suppliers such as bakers, printers, security companies. How do the SPL propose to make up for that? Surely they can't allow the top 6 sides to profit while the bottom 6 (5) lose out? There are probably a load more questions to be asked and the SPL would be advised to be cautious with their decision on the matter or they could be faced with legal challenges from a number of clubs. Guest BTR Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 If the SPL knows what's good for it, it should just give Gretna their prize money up front (or at least the pro-rata amount up to this point) and at least they'll be able to literally buy some time and fulfil their next two or three fixtures. At least this way, other teams (ie, us) don't lose out on potential revenue streams and gives the added bonus that Gretna's own players can be paid. Or is that too much common sense for the SPL? Mackie's ace! Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 The SPL is unwilling to release a cash advance, unless Gretna can prove to be a viable proposition, having already loaned them end-of-season prize money. Quote

Guest BTR Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 They already have, they need more money on top of that but the SPL wont give them anything till they meet tomorrow and put their case forward. I see. I must have misread that part. "My bad" as all the kool kids say. Anyone know if there is a limit on trialists in the SPL? I was gonna give Gretna a call seen as I'm planning on being in the area on Saturday anyway... But seriously, with the transfer deadline being 27th March they can flood their team with unattached players on amateur contracts, or as trialists, and end up making money between now and the end of the season. They get to finish the season, everyone else gets as close to a level playing field as possible and the "unattached" players get in the shop window. Quote

Kowalski Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Game ON according to Redweb. STILL GAME The Scottish Premier League has informed Aberdeen Football Club that, as far as it is concerned, Gretna will fulfil this weekend's league fixture. AFC Managing Director Duncan Fraser commented, "Following intensive discussions throughout the day involving the SPL, the administrator and ourselves, we were told late this afternoon (Thursday) that the governing body expects the match to be played, as scheduled, on Saturday at 3 pm. "From an AFC perspective, this is something we have been working extremely hard at achieving as all along preparations, both on and off the field, have been ongoing as normal in the build up to a match. While these are clearly difficult times for all concerned, the clear priority for everyone connected with the SPL has been to ensure we do all we possibly can to assist in ensuring Gretna fulfils its fixture commitments." Guest BTR Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Thank fuck BTR is driving! Petrol at £1.05 a litre may soon force bloo_toon_red to file for administration. Quote
glasgow sheep Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Game ON according to Redweb. From what has been said though it would seem that Gretna may struggle to get a team together for it. The SPL haven't postponed the game, that isn't the same as the game going ahead. Presumably there is still a significant chance that Gretna won't be able to show up and will have to forfeit Quote
SWA Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 So who are all these ST holders "demanding" a refund? I'm not, hadn't and wouldn't consider it. Dear fuck that EE really is an absolute dot to dot of a fucking paper. It diznae say that fans are demanding a refund, it just says that all eight thoosand season ticket holders could ask for a refund Quote
