Draw for European qualifiers is today at 5pm. Scotland in pot 3. Full groups as follows:

Pot 1: Belgium, France, England, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands

Pot 2: Switzerland, Wales, Poland, Sweden, Austria, Ukraine, Serbia, Turkey, Slovakia, Romania

Pot 3: Russia, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Czech Republic, Norway, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Scotland, Greece, Finland

Pot 4: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Israel, Belarus, Georgia, Luxembourg

Pot 5: Armenia, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Kosovo, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Latvia, Andorra

Pot 6: Malta, Moldova, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar, San Marino

5 groups of 6 teams and 5 of 5 teams.

the following pairs of teams cannot be in the same group:

Armenia & Azerbaijan
Gibraltar & Spain
Kosovo & Bosnia and Herzegovina
Kosovo & Russia
Kosovo & Serbia
Ukraine & Russia

Ten countries have been defined as venues with a risk of severe winter conditions and a maximum of two such countries can be drawn in the same group:

Belarus
Estonia
Faroe Islands*
Finland
Iceland*
Latvia
Lithuania
Norway
Russia
Ukraine

*Iceland and the Faroe Islands have been identified as venues with the highest risk of severe winter conditions. Given that the March window will include three matchdays, and to limit the disruption to the group-match scheduling, they cannot be drawn into the same group.

Nice open draw then, given all the above criteria ?

I doubt any of us without the help of the much used Old Firm numbered pins of days gone by could possibly have drawn that group

To those of us of my generation, this is surely a kiss of death, as we invariably perform better when under dogs.

Would rather have had one of the lower seeded teams to start to get points on the board early. Can see the top 4 teams all taking points off each other and this group coming down to who doesn’t fuck up against bottom two teams. Need to be winning all our home games to have a chance of qualifying.

Not great set of fixtures for fans if we get to travel. Having to get out to Copenhagen then back to Glasgow then out to Vienna over space of 6 days will be an interesting logistical challenge.

Update

Peru now into the playoff with either UAE or Australia.
New Zealand in the playoff with either Mexico, USA or Costa Rica.
Fair chance it will be Costa Rica as they'd need to beat the USA by at least 5 goals and/or hope Mexico lose at home to El Salvador, to get an automatic spot.

All the playoff matches are single leg ties being held in Qatar in June. Fucking genius move by FIFA given they moved the finals to December to avoid the heat.

I am all for the hosts not having to qualify because a host nation not being in their own tournament would be a bit crap but why on earth are Qatar a top seed, makes a mockery of the whole draw.  Also increases the possibility of one of the top nations going out early with Holland and Germany both being in pot 2 when one of them could/should be in pot 1.

Nonsense. Qatar have always been one of the giants of the game. It was just anti Arab racism that prevented them from bringing home the trophy in previous years.
