Very rarely does Banks have an off day for Hearts and that is one thing they can always call upon, the consistency of Steve Banks. Defender: Darren Barr – Falkirk Barr formed a solid partnership with Kenny Milne against Inverness and showed that he has the ability to read the game very well and his partner in defence. Barr had to be very careful up against Dennis Wyness and Marius Niculae but dealt with the threat extremely well indeed, again which is a testament to an overall fine display. Defender: Chris Hogg – Hibernian Another outstanding performance from Hogg, who just seems to be getting better and better this season and the best is yet to come from Hogg. He may not be the tallest central defender Hibernian has, but what he lacks in height, he more than makes up for with gusty displays like this. If Rob Jones decides to further his career down south, Mixu Paatelainen has a natural replacement in Hogg as he is a natural leader. Defender: Xander Diamond – Aberdeen Starting to look the Diamond of old when he partnered Russell Anderson at the heart of the Dons defence and that will be a welcome sight for Jimmy Calderwood as he strolled through the game against Gretna and was solid throughout. It was hardly his toughest test of the season, but still he managed to keep the visitors at bay and was one of the very few who sparkled on the day. Defender: Grant Munro – Inverness A solid performance by Munro who cleaned up everything going against Falkirk and the defender is one of those players who can be relied upon week-in, week-out without fail. Very steady in defence and quite useful in attack as well and is always one of the first names on the team-sheet. Right Midfield – Saulius Mikoliunas – Hearts Mikoliunas got all the credits for the right reason at the start of his Tynecastle career but has had very little involvement this season for one reason or another. Still getting attention for his Hampden antics but had the last laugh with a late equaliser against St Mirren. The Lithuanian needs to raise his standard and start winning critics over again with his skill which we all know he is more than capable of. Midfield: Danny Hall – Gretna Incredible display for Gretna bearing in mind what they are going through and for having the guts to play in the face of adversity I would consider having the whole Gretna side as our SPL Team of the Week for that alone. Hall was very composed on the ball and made several key interceptions. He works extremely hard and I think his display was that of a true professional and someone who does play for the jersey. Midfield: Mehdi Taouil – Kilmarnock Another great find by Jim Jefferies as Taouil linked up well with his team-mates and showed some classy touches as well. Taouil is forever looking to be involved and always never too far away from the action. Next season I think we will see what he really is all about. Midfield: Gary Mason – St Mirren I still reckon this was one of Gus MacPherson’s best signings for the club. He keeps it simple in the midfield and digs in very well indeed and then allows those with the skill to play the game. Mason is a very industrious player and will always put a shift in for you, hence the reason MacPherson snapped him up. Striker: Merouane Zemmama – Hibernian Zemmama is a nightmare to play against and Kilmarnock found this out on Saturday. His low centre of gravity enables him to turn quickly which more often than not gets him the kind of attention often associated with very frustrated defenders. Zemmama is constantly buzzing around the pitch looking for chances to break through, however he is prone to attempting the occasional flick or two, but somehow his colleagues do not seem to be on the same wavelength as him and it very often breaks down. Striker: Jim Hamilton – St Mirren Hamilton might be short of match practice but his vast experience allows him to counteract that and used that to great effect in the game. Enjoyed his goal against one of his old clubs that very nearly grabbed them all three points until a certain Lithuanian stepped in. Hamilton is a great asset to have in your weaponry with his aerial presence which is always very difficult for defenders to deal with. don't know what the spelling is about? Is his ma Xena warrior princess? But good to see him in there, even though as the article says it wasnt the hardest game for him. Also very strange to see no old-infirm player in a team of the week! As an aside he is only signed until the end of the season, got to be worth a look, after all JC see him first hand running the show with Bryson the weekend after Munich against us. Quote
