Sweetchuck Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Pumped out of Olympics in first round from some unknown Chinese Taipie player in straight sets. He can be British this week then!! Does anyone know who the reigning Olympic tennis champion is? Nope? Does anyone care? Thought not. Quote
BigAl Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Could well go out of the doubles as well today as set down in that just now Edit: One set each now Quote
Kowalski Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7591051.stm Andy Murray produced one of the best performances of his career to sweep aside Stanislas Wawrinka and reach the quarter-finals of the US Open. The British number one, 21, dominated from the outset and wrapped up a 6-1 6-3 6-3 victory in one hour 49 minutes. And the quality of Murray's play will have boosted his credentials as a real title contender at Flushing Meadows. The Scot will next meet 19-year-old Argentine, Juan Martin del Potro, who is on a 23-match winning streak. Great stuff. Quote
glasgowdon Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Murray now through to his first ever Grand Slam semi final. 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-1) 4-6 7-5. He will face either Nadal or Fish. Quote
Sharpie Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 It's Nadal. I predict a draw. Mardy Fish reminds me of Mr. Scruff. Fish, fish, fish, fish, fish. Quote
sheep_shagger Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 He wasnt that convincing last night and his serve was broken too often. If he plays like that against Nadal it will be a quick straight sets defeat. Quote
Kowalski Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 When is this semi final? Tomorrow night? Quote
Tyrant Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 He wasnt that convincing last night and his serve was broken too often. If he plays like that against Nadal it will be a quick straight sets defeat. It will. He has to play at the top of his game to even get near Nadal. Beat Nadal is maybe a bridge to far for now. But I see no reason why Andy can't keep improving. The U.S Open is his favourite tournemant and his favourite surface and Nadal prefers clay. That could go in Andy's favour. Quote
Snapper Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 It will. He has to play at the top of his game to even get near Nadal. Beat Nadal is maybe a bridge to far for now. If Murray plays like he did against Wawrinka then he's got a chance. He made too many errors last night and lacked the killer instinct. 3-1 up in the third set only to lose it 6-4!. He won't get as many opportunities against Nadal, but here's hoping. Quote
glasgowdon Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Murray will have to give it 100% and Nadal will need to be having an off day. That said, Murray probably has all a player will ever need, he just needs to be able to do it over the course of the match. Quote

bilbobaggins Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 No but a racquet would come in handy. Quote
Ajja Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 A racket? Na, he's normally pretty quiet on the court. Always in a huff Quote
Tyrant Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Ahh! The old "pretend I was fishing" routine! Quote
bilbobaggins Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Darn it, done up like a kipper Quote
