BigAl Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Just watched end of Laura Robson match at lunchtime. She came back from 3-0 in deciding set to win 11-9 against the number eight seed and previous Grand Slam winner. Superb performance and Tyrant you're right about her legs Quote
BigAl Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 P.S For anoyne that didn't know Murray through to third round after fairly routine three set victory earlier today Quote

She came back from 3-0 in deciding set to win 11-9 against the number eight seed and previous Grand Slam winner. Superb performance and Tyrant you're right about her legs In fairness it was Mav who pointed out the aesthetic qualities of her legs. I found myself watching Watson yesterday. Usually I have a zero tolerance policy on women's tennis being on my TV set but like Robson today she produced a gritty and admirable performance. It's too early to tell if I will make an effort to watch women's tennis on any sort of large scale. Quote
scunnered999 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 I'll be more convinced about watching women's tennis when they start playing best of 5 sets like the men do. Decent women's matches are a rarity with some lasting less than an hour. Quote

Yeah it's quite obvious when you look at men's tennis how much better the slams are than the atp matches because the 5 sets allows for momentum to shift. Quote

Decent women's matches are a rarity with some lasting less than an hour. I see what you mean. But personally I generally can't watch best of 3 sets women's matches and sure as hell wouldn't watch best of 5 matches but despite the women's game drawing just a fraction of the money into the game they get parity with the men's game in terms of prize money so whilst that's the case I think they should be made to put in the same amount of graft. Just as long as no one forces me to watch it. Although I suspect the lack of quality will stop a rule like that ever being implemented. The people in charge of the game don't want to see more women's tennis either. Also judging by number of sets in the women's game being won 6-0 or 6-1 it's clear to me that even if there is some quality in the women's game there's certainly no depth. Quote

I'm all for women getting parity with men in terms of their wage. but in this particular sport it's totally unjust because the women play so little tennis in the singles that they can then walk straight back on to the court and play doubles. So they don't get parity, they actually get way more than the men. the simple answer is play the same length of match. equality's means being treated equally and having equal responsibilities. Quote
Andrew Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Should they not get paid as much as the market deems them to be worth? Women generate less money from advertising etc. so they should get paid less. Quote
Goldie03 Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 All over the world in numerous other jobs, women get paid less than men Leave them alone, the majority of them look good on court and wear pretty dresses I couldnt watch them play 5 sets tho, too much grunting Anyhow back to the tennis - Laura Legs 11 Robson is out but Andy is through to the last 16 Quote
Kowalski Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Don't know if anyone is watching the Djokovic game but its been epic, currently 9-9 in the 5th set. Wawrinka playing out of his skin. Quote

Wawrinka playing out of his skin. just incredible. gutted for wawrinka because that would've been a career-defining win. djokovic is like one of the big bad bastards at the end of a level on super mario (even if he does look more like the mad green dragony thing). BigAl Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Murray two sets up against Simon currently in last sixteen match Quote
Kowalski Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Murray through no bother, has not lost a set all tournament Quote
manc_don Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Impressive form so far, hopefully he can keep it up Is the ozzy open all on Eurosport? Quote

Aye it's the fairest way but the feminists, blinded by the massive chip on their shoulders would be up in arms. I was gutted for Wawrinka. I would loved to have seen him win. I just hope Berdych takes full advantage of how knackered Djok is likely to be. Quote
maverick sheep Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 The latter stages will be on the beeb too manc. Final definitely, but canny mind if semis too edit - Saturday 26 January Women's singles final, 0825 GMT on BBC Two Sunday 27 January Men's singles final, 0815 GMT on BBC Two Quote
manc_don Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Nice one, cheers! I was hoping some of it would be on BBC. Quote
Tyrant Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 2 big hurdles before he's in the final though. I had to stick a fiver on Federer at 5/1. Quote
Tyrant Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Got up early to watch his match today. Straight sets win over Chardy. Chardy only really tested Murray in the first despite Murray taking a 4-0 lead in that set. Murray played some really good stuff but will have to play much better to have a chance of beating Federer. I don't expect Tsonga to put up much of a fight TBH be honest. Quote
dickofthedons Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 BBC two used to always stop their schedule for Andy's matches, even round one and two. Think their budget has taken a big hit, there was a big change to their interactive service a month or two back. Down to one screen, think you will notice a big different around the time of Wimbledon when you cannot choose between different matches anymore on BBCi. Quite disappointed, the interactive service was one think the BBC had going for it. On a side note, Murray is looking in good form at the right time Quote

I'm not watching it but the Federer match sounds decent. Quote
maverick sheep Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Even the last couple of wimbledons haven't been as good on bbci as they were at first. I remember them having about 10 matches to choose from, then down to a couple. Will be interesting to see how the coverage on their website compares too, considering they couldn't even keep spl commentary. Quote
scunnered999 Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Federer v Tsonga has gone to a 5th set, currently 2-1 Fed but hope it goes on for hours yet ending up 23-21 to Tsonga Quote
