manc_don
I've had my macbook (retina display) for nigh on 7 years, and the other day a vertical white line appeared on screen and has not shifted. I'm figuring its something LED related or however the retina display works, but is it salvagable? It's very thin at the mo, but it's dead zone and i'm hoping there is either a fix or it won't expand. RicoS321
Sounds like aliens or the government. I'd burn it.
tom_widdows
Cynic in me suggests Apple thinks 7 years is too long to wait to get more of your money. Are you sure the white line is on the laptop and not on your actual retinas?
RicoS321
I've replaced numerous laptop screens, it was a piece of piss. Never tried a MacBook though. Probably got special screws or impenetrable glue.
manc_don
Definitely has special screws, the fuckers don't make it easy. I'm leaning towards Tom's idea that Apple probably think 7 years is time for a new one...
RicoS321
That was seven years ago, things were different then. They have managed to get the newer models down to only lasting four years.
manc_don
I'm laughing but only because that's true
baggy89
My 2013 macbook pro screen died 2 years ago, worked on a monitor via hdmi. Booked a genius bar appt. It was caused by a known fault, whereby the display screen cables became worn over time. Turned out that wasn't a recall issue but there was a recall on that generation for the anti-UV coating being shit and flaking off. Got the screen replaced under that recall and it's still going strong. Can't remember if mine was year before retina display or not? Worth a go if you're near an apple store.
