Next manager

Our season to date has robson’s fingerprints all over it, poor decisions, mistakes, and a lack of experience. But potential. Young team with a young manager. I think the window will be huge for Robson. Think shinnie was a great loan signing last Xmas, needed, and we need something and someone similar. Totally random suggestion, but I’ve always liked John fleck. Not sure how much he plays for Sheffield utd now, 33 in August, maybe a similar loan like Shinnie until summer and reassess then?

Tbf I think we started the season really well under Goodwin if my memory is correct.

Had a good home record as had a habit of scoring quite handsomely at Pittodrie early in the season, but were shocking away from home - only won two league away games in Goodwin's time as manager.

Got breaks in some of those early home games with opponents getting early red cards.

Would be sounding out Tony Mowbray meantime..

Was just coming on to say this. His Sunderland team played decent football. Can’t see him being the type of manager for Cormack though.

The general feeling from those that know him is he has no interest in managing in Scotland again.

Might depend on what his offers in England are I suppose (he's 60 now) but appears the challenge of getting a Championship team to the Premier League then testing himself against the best trump anything we can offer him. And his stock is still relatively high down there as many feel he was emptied from Sunderland a bit early, he'll be back in a job after Christmas.

Suspect you are right but still worth sounding him out as he might see getting us into Europe and then group football as a similar level of challenge. He is not going to get a team in England that will offer European football.

If they're going to sack him, then they'll do it today. If not then he'll be in the dugout v Ross County.

My hunch is they'll give him more time. If Goodwin can convince the FMB after Darvel to stick with him, then Robson can.

Was interesting that Willie Miller said on the radio (before the game) that the fans are still with Robson but a loss might see him lose some goodwill. I think it's gone far beyond that. Lose an early goal v County in midweek and the board will certainly hear what the fans think.

In the spirit of the thread.

Tony Mowbray: Those who know him say he has no interest in managing in Scotland again. I'd like to think we'd at least offer to buy him lunch and put a proposal to him.

Alex Neil: Conflicted with him. At Stoke he wanted to be in control of everything, an old school manager, restructured the whole club how he wanted it. That seemed to be his reason for leaving Sunderland for them. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing but ultimately didn't work at Stoke. Put together a decent squad there too but tinkered too much which was his downfall.

The others.

Jack Ross: Was very close to getting the job before Goodwin did. But a no from me. Very average success rate and not someone to galvanise the support.

Neil Lennon: No, never.

Ian Murray: St Mirren was too soon for him, but he went to Norway as an assistant, and is now on an upward trajectory as boss, arguably the top performing Scottish manager this season. Probably not done enough to be on Aberdeen's radar though.

Derek McInnes: Let's get this out of the way. Has done well by Kilmarnock's standards this season, but I don't think he's done enough to suggest that by Aberdeen's standards he would improve on the underwhelming final three seasons he had here.

I suspect board will stick with Robson for a while yet as to be sacking 3 managers in 3 years is not a good look and suggests board are not very good at their job. Mind you not getting rid of him now also suggests the same.

Think Willie Miller  is wrong about goodwill for Robson as from speaking to folk any goodwill towards him went after his approach to the cup final. Mood feels very similar to the way it did after the Celtic game under Goodwin.

Already said above that I would like to see us approach Mowbray but not sure he will take it. The way Alex Neil left Sunderland doesn’t sit right with me and if it was about control then can’t see him wanting to come to us under our current set up. That said he (and Mowbray) both had Sunderland playing decent football. Murray is an interesting one. He has Raith in a great position in the league and his team play the attacking football craved by Cormack. They do however concede almost as many as they score and not sure that approach will work in the top flight.

Going outside Scotland I would go back to speak to Kjetil Knutsen at Bodo Glimt. I know he turned down an approach before but his big move to Europe/England has not materialised and maybe he would now accept coming to us as his stepping stone on to getting a bigger move.

Ricardo Rodriguez still available by the look of things. Know more or less nothing about him, just a name brought up in the last search…

Iam Murray has a similar background, slightly less, than Goodwin, not the experience we need.

Kjetil Knutson is an interesting one, he’’d certainly get more exposure with us, but we’d likely be a stepping stone and if he gets positive momentum could be with us only for a short time. We almost need someone who has gone bigger, failed, and needs to rebuild credibility….??

Probably correct. Although I'm not sure that we're much different to where he is at present. I don't think the English leagues are crying out for guys with experience in Scotland, and their nets clearly cast wider than the British isles and they'll know all about Knutsen.

I would take Kjell Knutsen in a heartbeat but he has been linked with Ajax, Celtic and Rangers this year, and is currently being touted for the Swansea job. It would be a major surprise to the whole of Europe I think if he rocked up at Aberdeen, who would arguably be a step down from where he is at the moment considering he has Bodo/Glimt in the knockout stages of Europe, and I think has just won the league and therefore is in the Champions League qualifiers next season.

Ricardo Rodriguez - not 100% sure as never had it confirmed by anyone, but I think we did approach him and he turned us down. Maybe he just needed a sabbatical and would be more open now.

Ugh. Comments like this should be banned!

hard no, we moved on for a reason.

The guy’s 12 points clear of us with a fraction of the budget we have, it’s a no brainer. We moved on because he had virtually no financial backing from Cormack, nothing close to what those following him have had.

I'll do it for free if you all tell me who to pick via my private Facebook Messenger!

I'm sick to the back teeth of Dave Cormack and his cronies.  I've lost a lot of love for the club since he came in four years ago.

Looking to call it a day with football generally speaking at end of season.  Costs me too much of my time, effort, money to justify it being a part of my life anymore.

More and more every day I'm starting to realise how right David Bentley and Tommy Hoban were regarding how football is not for me anymore like it wasn't for them either.

I think the modern day player is more bothered by their popularity on social media with their teammates first and supporters second than actually wanting to achieve anything memorable or great in their career and for me herein lies a large part of why we are as rubbish today as I've seen us for a very long time.

Those representing our team just don't give a toss about us fans probably never have.  Just a sign of the times in the game I guess.

Not something I'm willing to put up with for too much longer it has to be said.  Following your team is suppose to be fun and exciting.  Not dull and stressful like it has been under Mr Cormack.
