tlg1903
Thought we might have had some sort of update from the club by now. I'm starting to think we can rule out Robson getting it until the end of the season though. If that was going to happen it surely would have done so following the massive comprehensive win against hearts.
OxfordDon
Not sure about until the end of the season, but given it's importance I'd give him the assurance of to the split, and reassess then.

I think that would be really disrespectful to Robson and he would likely tell them to gtf, and quite right too. He's managed for six games, won four of them, had the team scoring three goals in three of them, beaten two direct rivals for a European place and won away from home. So what would we be hoping for from another four games? Just to make absolutely sure it wasn't all a fluke? And then if he does well in those we give him another five after the split just to make extra, extra sure it's not a fluke? If the club have someone lined up that they can't get until summer, or they feel they might get in summer (Chris Wilder perhaps considering he's only on a short-term deal at Watford) then that's the only reason to give it to Robson until summer only. Other than that, show the boy some respect and either appoint him or don't.
Jute
I would have thought if Robson was in for the job long term then he would have been appointed by now. I am beginning to suspect Wilder taking the Watford job may have put our search for next manager back to square 1 and we might not see a manager in before the split. RicoS321
It's fairly normal for a manager who isn't the previous manager to get a bounce, and I believe it's been recorded as waning at 15 games (correlative, not causative). Whilst any other manager would have benefited similarly, it's probably not sound to draw too much judgement from Robson's performances to date. I get the impression that Robson will be getting kept up to date with what's happening, but also not in a position to divulge anything in order to keep the morale up, so it's just one of those awkward situations for now. The players will likely have been told that they're taking their time to make sure that they make the best decision and that it could take a few more weeks, and then they'll just keep updating that position to drag it out for another while. I'd be happy with Robson. I don't think he ticks any of the boxes when it comes to strategy, unless we're getting a new director of football above him.
DantheDon
I know the new manager bounce can be a thing but it didnt happen under Goodwin or Glass. Tend to think we are doing better though because Robson has abandoned the bogus strategy in the first place. Looks like we are still playing good enough football but now we are getting results. Yes, it doesn't happen under every manager, but for those who experience an uptick in results, it usually fades away after 15 matches, apparently. I can't find the study. I think it was particular to English football too, but probably applicable everywhere. I suspect it is largely based on the level of incompetence that comes before and whether there's been a run down of the playing staff too (which McGhee, Glass and Goodwin all experienced). You wouldn't expect the manager after Robson to have a bounce either, as Robson won't be leaving under a cloud. I agree, Robson is not abiding by the strategy and that is working. It was blatantly obvious it would. What the club is aiming for cannot be achieved overnight and cannot be achieved with the existing playing staff. That has always been the absurdity of it. The notion that Ramadani, McRorie or Shinnie are going to be playing free flowing football because a new manager tells them to is a little bit silly. Hopefully our recruitment team have proven without doubt that they are incapable of getting eleven players capable of playing free flowing football and we can move on and base our strategy on good, but pragmatic, fitba that plays to our strengths in order to get results with the odd dazzling display in between. Elgindon
I dont think Robson can argue it would be reasonable now to give him til the end of the season, and review at that time..rather than giving him a longish contract,(despite the need for player replacements etc). You'd hope we have potential targets, taking into account where we are managerial wise. Re Robson - I think he has the brains for the job,but have a wee hunch he doesnt have the stomach for it long term, but we'll see... tlg1903
Retard reporting Robson to get it till the end of the season. About bloody time to my eye.
Jute
Not my choice and going to leave us up the creek if either side decides they don’t want to continue come June with the number of changes to the squad that are needed Increases my apprehension about renewing a season ticket when I don’t know who manager will be next season. If board think Robson has done enough to get the job until the end of the season they should give him 18 months to allow a team to be built. manc_don
I think this makes sense, to a point, but then does that mean he’ll leave if he doesn’t get the top job in the end? I saw we were linked with the former Copenhagen boss, jess, which is the caliber of manager I’d like (no sleight against Robson).

I saw we were linked with the former Copenhagen boss, jess, which is the caliber of manager I’d like (no sleight against Robson). I'd hope he would leave if he doesn't get it. There'd be little benefit to him, personally, staying if he has ambition to be a manager. Unless for family reasons or whatever. If he's not manager, I couldn't care less if we keep him or not. The lad Jess is on gardening leave of approximately £1M per year. We need to be looking lower than that. It's probably about double what we should be paying if we're going to be a sustainable team working within its wages to turnover ratio. I don't believe the incremental gain you get from paying a manager significantly more are worth the offset hit you'd need to take on the playing budget (£500K would be two good players). I think it's fairly clear that playing personnel is the biggest driver of success on the pitch. Looking for a manager is no different to a player and we'll be looking in the same sort of places as we do for players, trying to identify managers who have done well at smaller clubs and are looking for a stepping stone. I'm assuming that's why we're struggling to find one. Robson until the end of the season is a nonsense, unless we're hoping he fails. Any manager looking at a team with twelve players leaving is going to be either desperate or stupid. If Robson does reasonably well getting us fourth or fifth and maybe European football then that in itself is probably already a barrier difficult to overcome next season with the turnover required. I think if Robson does well then he's in a no-lose situation. Either he gets the Aberdeen job permanently, or another club will pick him up. Hard to see Billy Dodds staying at Inverness beyond the end of the season for example. Robson an ex-player, it's still relatively close to the north-east. If he's not getting the Aberdeen job then that would be a plausible move. Or Dundee United if Goodwin doesn't stay. For Aberdeen, it means they have a manager in place now with the option to extend it. I would have preferred they had just made it permanent as there's still an uncertainty over the role, but it is what it is. Now go do enough to get the job permanently Robbo.

Our pass completion rate versus hearts was in the low 50s. It's far from flowing football. However I'll concede that we also seem more competitive. As a decent striker into the mix and I'm not unhappy with the set up

RicoS321
Good use of "initially". We really need him to be getting the job long term or we're screwed. If he came top in the interview process ahead of the other three candidates, then in my mind he should be offered the contract we'd have been looking to offer one of the others had they been the clear best candidate for the role. What we're effectively saying is that the other guys would have only been good enough to see us through until the summer. It's a gamble. I hope he does well.

tlg1903
Potentially this could future planning. I did read online that Agnew may be away back to his business in london come the summer and he only took the gig as a favour to Robson. If memory serves it was on the abz podcasts twitter feed as a reply but don't quote me on that. I trust Robsons judgement though. One of the first things that struck me about him when he took over from glass was he clearly doesn't suffer fools. If he thinks Fox is worth having then I doubt he's going to be a negative influence on the team. He was asst to courts and the jutes did well under that regime so his record isn't as bad as would first appear. Time will tell I suppose. On Liam Fox, although he's not a manager, he is a highly rated coach. Actually a good appointment I'd say. The news that disturbs me is that Craig Levein met with Alan Burrows this week and is set to join the Football Monitoring Board.
