DONS defender Zander Diamond could miss next month’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Queen of the South.

Manager Jimmy Calderwood today admitted he is worried Diamond, pictured, could be sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a face injury in their 1-0 quarter-final victory over Celtic.

He was unable to play in Saturday’s 1-1 SPL draw with St Mirren and will also sit out the semi if doctors discover Diamond has suffered a fracture.

Calderwood said: “It all depends on the extent of the damage which we will be able to see properly once the swelling on Zander’s cheek goes down. “But we’ve warned if he has a fracture Zander will be out for up to six weeks. “That would be a massive blow.â€

Jamie Smith, Derek Young and Stuart Duff are back in training.

Let's all hope it isn't fractured

Can he not wear one of those plastic mask thingys that some players have recently worn with similar injuries?

Are they not for broken noses though? I remember Mihailovic (spelling?) used to wear one during a time at Lazio and a Japanese player did it during the WC. We need him so they need to do anything in their power to make this happen. Question is, are our medical staff intelligent enough?

Reckon he'll be back before then. Going by the sky comentators he wanted to come back on and it took the doctor to tell hik he wasn't playing. He could'nt see out of it already at that point. Don't think he'll let them keep him out that long.

Plastic face guards (as opposed to the chocolate fireguard that is Stuart Duff) can be used with fractured cheekbones. I don't think our medical staff have the necessary ability to make this even a remote possibility.

Jamie Smith is back in training. That is an accident waiting to happen folks.

I think the problem with him coming back on was he had to take out his contact lens and put in a new one, but by this point his eye was too swollen to get it back in. Although a one eyed Diamond would probably be better than Lee Mair.
